Skills training provider ALX has officially opened the doors of a new technology training and skills development hub in Braamfontein, Joburg.

The Tech Hub was launched on Wednesday, June 21.

Removing barriers preventing Mzansi youth from accessing digital transformation opportunities is the goal of ALX.

Their call for action aligns with the Youth Month theme for 2023, which is “Accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future”.

Divesh Sooka, general manager at ALX South Africa, said that he’s excited about this initiative.

To equip young people with skills for the digital revolution, they’re looking forward to working with many of them around the country in the future, he said.

“Government, civil society, and the private sector must rally to address infrastructural challenges and create opportunities for young people to acquire in-demand skills that will enable them to participate in the global digital economy,” he said.

Sooka said more than 85,000 students have graduated from ALX since 2021, and about 85% of its graduates have found employment within six months of completing their training.

“It’s our job to empower them. If we are privileged, it’s our job to change lives,” he said.

Naima Mclean, vice president for Community Experience at the organisation, said they’ve created a lifelong community called The Room.

“We are at the cutting edge of technology. We always want to stay close to our graduates,” she said.

Emmanuel Omokhegbo, who graduated as a software engineer, said the ALX programme opened doors for him.
