Rankings of companies including Google, Meta, Zoom, and Zillow have decreased because of layoffs, long hours, and lousy management.

On Glassdoor’s ranking of the best 100 companies to work for in 2024, Google and Microsoft have dropped dramatically in the rankings. Microsoft’s position fell from No. 13 to No. 18, and Google’s fell from No. 8 to No. 26. For the second year in a row, companies like Zoom, Zillow, and Meta were not included on the list at all.

Based on input from employees, this ranking typically consists of the top US and UK enterprises with 1,000 or more employees. Wednesday, January 10, saw the announcement of the most recent rankings.

Gainsight and Box were among the other companies that fell out of the rankings after previously making the list. Last year, up to 41 tech businesses were included on the list. Only 31 did this year.

Remarkably, according to online tracker layoffs.fyi, tech companies across many industries let go of roughly 260,000 workers last year alone. In just the first nine days of 2024, the industry has already seen the layoff of almost 2,000 employees. Employee dissatisfaction is inevitable, therefore, everywhere.

Rankings of companies including Google, Meta, Zoom, and Zillow have decreased because of layoffs, long hours, and lousy management, according to Glassdoor evaluations. “Even for large companies that have traditionally been stable, we heard employees were increasingly concerned about their employers’ business outlook,” Glassdoor’s lead economist, Daniel Zhao, told Quartz.

Apple, on the other hand, returned to the list, coming in at number 39 after missing it the previous year. Compared to similar businesses, the company saw fewer layoffs. Chipmaker NVIDIA came in second. A prominent aspect was Bain & Company featuring at the top.

Here are the top 20 companies in Glassdoor’s 2024 ranking:

  • Bain & Company
  • NVIDIA
  • ServiceNow
  • MathWorks
  • Procore Technologies
