When asked how he planned his career path to be a successful Head IT & CISO, Lalit Trivedi, Head IT & Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at ITI Mutual Fund, in an exclusive interview with CIO News, said, at the time of pursuing my SSC, I came across one of the business families running IT Development Company. I started building my interest in this area and used to sit with a developer to understand how a computer works. After spending a long time in such activities, I decided to build a career in information technology (IT) and decided to pursue my graduation in the IT field only.
When asked about challenges he faced in his career path and how he overcame them, he said, challenges I faced were: No person with a good education background in the family to guide and provide the right direction for my career path and plan. At every step of my education, I learned from others and decided on my career path. Today if I see in the past, I am proud to be here as a Head IT & CISO.
When asked about a cyber-attack or any security incident faced by his current organisation and how he tackled it, he said, “We have already implemented MDR/SIEM/End Point Security for 24X7 monitoring of the network and other devices”. We had faced one incident in the past, where unknown hackers tried to access our network with an unknown IP and as soon as we received an alert from SOC, we blocked the complete IP range with immediate effect to protect the network.
When asked how his organisation geared up in terms of technology in the COVID times, he said, “As a start-up, we had so many challenges to gear up in terms of technology in the COVID”. The first main challenge was to provide a platform to employees (connect anywhere any time) to perform day-to-day business operations. The second main challenge was to promote business on digital platforms to reach a maximum client base and generate business value and minimize the traditional approach to the sales and marketing team. The third challenge was: How to secure business brand, network, and data from external threats.
We did complete research and implemented cost-effective solutions for each of the functions. Solutions implemented include IT & Cyber Security, WFM, Digital Transformation, and Business & Sales Analytics.
When asked about technology solutions and innovations he plans to implement in the post-COVID era, he said, “We have already implemented the required solutions in the post-COVID era, still we are doing a market study & research on what best we can provide to our customers as a service, as a platform to associate with us and support in the business to grow.
When asked about challenges faced by technology leaders today in a similar industry while implementing digital technologies, he said, “In today’s scenario, the main challenge for a technology leader is to choose the right solution for right business because in the current IT world, multiple service providers are providing multiple solutions for the same business & functions. There must be proper vendor assessment/evaluation, product evaluation and mapping with business function as the main challenge for all technology leaders, and at the same time, the cost is also one of the most critical factors for management and business”.
“Technology leaders must do research along with vendor solution and current customer experience while implementing digital technologies”.
When asked how technology leaders can overcome the challenges faced, he said, “To overcome the challenges, all technology leaders must balance on all the above-mentioned factors to get best solutions/service provides onboard, considering long term sustainable business & IT goals”.
When asked about best practices/industry trends/advice he would like to suggest to fellow technology leaders for their successful professional journeys, he said, yes, not advise, but I can share my experience with technology leaders about how and what challenges I faced and what strategy I followed to get the desired success in my professional journey.
When I face any challenge in my professional journey, I not only resolve it, but I try to learn from challenges, find the root cause of challenges, how to resolve and in case face the same challenges with a different scenario, how to handle the same. “Always be subjective rather than objective. Positive approach to any challenge helps leaders to overcome and help to prove his/her leadership”.
He highlighted, “Always learn from the current and past exercise”. “Learning opportunity always gives you more confidence and opens the future doors in the professional space”.
