Meta Platform’s (META.O) WhatsApp was restored on Wednesday, following an hours-long outage that disrupted services for thousands of people worldwide.
WhatsApp announced in a post on the social media platform X that the issues were rectified.
At its peak, the outage affected over 24,000 WhatsApp users in the United States, with Instagram users reporting over 5,000 outages, according to Downdetector data.
According to Downdetector, which analyzes outages by collecting status updates from a variety of sources, including user-submitted faults on its platform, over 1,000 people were still experiencing issues with Instagram in the United States.
The WhatsApp outage affected thousands of users in India, the United Kingdom, and Brazil, according to Downdetector data.
Last month, hundreds of thousands of Facebook and Instagram users worldwide were affected for more than two hours due to a technical outage.
Meta has over 3.19 billion daily active users throughout its family of apps, which includes Threads.
