According to sources on Monday, Delta Air Lines has retained legal counsel and plans to sue Microsoft and CrowdStrike for damages resulting from a worldwide cyber disruption that occurred earlier this month and affected flights all over the world. Among the big US carriers, the Atlanta-based airline has recovered from the July 19 tech meltdown that resulted in over 2,200 flight cancellations, the slowest.

Over 6,000 flights have been canceled by Delta thus far, leaving hundreds of thousands of passengers stranded. According to analysts, the impact on the company’s profitability might reach hundreds of millions of dollars. A representative for CrowdStrike stated, “We are aware of the reporting, but have no knowledge of a lawsuit and have no further comment.” In after-hours trading, the cybersecurity company’s shares decreased by almost 2%.

After the flight cancellations caused by the breakdown, the U.S. Transportation Department declared last week that it would launch an investigation into Delta.
