TikTok’s parent firm launches text-to-video AI tool, Jimeng AI

ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has joined the text-to-video AI market with the introduction of Jimeng AI, an AI tool that allows users to input text to create videos. This application functions exactly like OpenAI’s Sora, which ChatGPT developer OpenAI released this year.

Developed by Faceu Technology, Jimeng AI is currently accessible in China on the Apple App Store and Android Play Store. Each of Jimeng AI’s three membership plans enables customers to produce roughly 2,050 photos or 168 AI videos each month.

Significantly, ByteDance’s launch places it in the same league as other Chinese internet giants who have recently unveiled their own text-to-video tools.

For instance, late last month, one of the biggest video applications in China, Kuaishou, introduced their Kling AI text-to-video strategy on a worldwide scale. Its beta version is accessible worldwide, and users can utilize it by putting in their email address for registration.

Last month, Zhipu AI, a different Chinese AI startup, also unveiled its video-generating model Ying, which was followed by Shengshu’s Vidu app launch. The most well-known product of Faceu Technology, a division of ByteDance’s Jianying business, is the video editing app CapCut.

According to a recent rumor, Alibaba Group is also developing Tora, a video-generating tool that is based on OpenAI’s Sora.

OpenAI’s and Google’s text-to-video AI tools

The text-to-video model Sora, developed by Microsoft-backed OpenAI, was announced in February but is not yet available to the general public. Google also unveiled Veo, their most advanced video-generating model, at I/O 2024 earlier this year. Veo can produce long-form, 1080p videos with excellent quality. Additionally, Google stated that it will integrate some of Veo’s features into YouTube shorts and other products.
