An astounding 92% of Indian businesses reported breaches in the previous year, with the cybersecurity skills gap being the main cause.

Fortinet’s 2024 Global Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report reveals an alarming link between cybersecurity breaches and India’s skill deficiencies. 92% of Indian companies reported breaches in the previous year, with the majority of the blame going to the lack of cybersecurity expertise.

Furthermore, 80% agree that their cyber risks increase as a result of this difference. Fortinet Chief Marketing Officer John Maddison emphasizes the importance of a complete approach to addressing this problem. “Organizations must adopt the right security technology, upgrade skills through training, and build a cyber-aware workforce,” he stated. With over half a million people trained in cybersecurity so far, Fortinet is on pace to reach its goal of one million people by 2026.

Vishak Raman, Vice President of Sales at Fortinet for India, SAARC, SEA, and ANZ, highlights the company’s dedication to overcoming this gap. As a result of breaches connected to a lack of skills affecting 92% of Indian firms, we are expanding our accessible training offerings. Our partnerships with authorities in the fields of education, government, and business are creating a talent pool that is resilient,” he stated.

The study presents an unfavorable image of how skill shortages affect Indian businesses. Both the number and severity of breaches are on the rise, carrying significant financial consequences as well as increased accountability for business executives. Since almost all poll participants would rather work with certified professionals, credentials are highly respected. They are also recognized for improving security measures.

Many businesses are changing their hiring practices, inviting individuals with a variety of professional and educational backgrounds, and funding their certification and training in order to address the persistent talent deficit. Comprehensive training, increased awareness, and strong security solutions via its Security Fabric platform are all part of Fortinet’s all-encompassing strategy. A key component of their approach is the Fortinet Training Institute, which is dedicated to democratizing cybersecurity education and employment possibilities worldwide.
