Japanese technology investor SoftBank had abandoned plans to work with Intel to produce an AI chip that would have competed with Nvidia, as per media reports.
The reports that cited people familiar with the subject claimed that the deal did not materialize because the American chipmaker found it difficult to meet SoftBank’s conditions.
According to reports, SoftBank blamed Intel for the failure of the talks, stating that the latter was unable to match its demands for speed and volume.
SoftBank is now concentrating on talks with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the largest contract chipmaker in the world.
According to reports, the negotiations broke down ahead of Intel’s aggressive cost-cutting measures, which included thousands of layoffs in early August.
Requests for comment from Reuters were not immediately answered by Intel or SoftBank.
