Emmanuel Macron, the president, stated on Friday when visiting Serbia that in order for Europe to catch up with China and the US, it must invest in its own AI model.
During a speech at a meeting in Novi Sad, the leader of France said, “We Europeans are a bit behind.”
Macron said, “The Chinese and the Americans invest a lot more,” during a visit that also saw Serbia and France sign an agreement for 12 Rafale fighters, moving away from Russian weaponry for the Balkan country.
In order for Europe to compete with Beijing and Washington, the president of France advised “catch up, innovate, invest much more” and stated that artificial intelligence “should serve collective goals.”
Macron stated that Europe ought to create a hybrid public-private innovation paradigm.
The president of state stated that the “priority is to invest” for the European Union, which has put in place a special legislative framework in an attempt to restrict the technical advancements of Al.
“Once we reach a moment of maturity, that is when we can turn regulation into an attractive advantage,” he remarked. As France is ready to host an Al summit in February 2025, Belgrade will serve as the leader of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence.
According to Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault, Serbia will get nine single-seat and three two-seat fighter jets as part of the popular deal by 2029.
The twelve multipurpose fighter aircraft will assist Serbia in updating its air force and replacing its aging combat aircraft from the Soviet era.
The French president described the agreement as a brave “strategic change” for the Balkan nation, which has applied to join the EU but has historically been close to China and Russia.
