India and Singapore Sign MoUs related to Digital Tech and Semiconductor during PM’S Visit

Important MoUs in the areas of digital technologies, semiconductors, health cooperation, and skill development were signed by Singapore and India on Wednesday. These agreements will deepen their collaboration.

Following a conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is now visiting Singapore, and his counterpart Lawrence Wong, the agreements were inked.

What are the key Memorandums of Understandings (MoUs) signed by India and Singapore?

Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information and India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology signed the first MoU to collaborate on digital technology. This will make it easier for the two nations to work closely together in the fields of new technologies like super-computing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence, as well as digital technologies like DPI, cyber-security, and 5G. Additionally, it will make collaboration possible for people who want to retrain or upskill in the digital field.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of India and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore inked the Memorandum of Understanding about the semiconductor ecosystem partnership between the two countries. In accordance with this agreement, Singapore and India will work together to create a semiconductor cluster and nurture talent in the design and production of semiconductors. Additionally, it will make Singapore’s investments in India easier.

With 10% of the world’s total chip production and 20% of the world’s total manufacture of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, Singapore is a crucial link in the global semiconductor supply chain.

The Ministries of Health and Family Welfare of Singapore and India have inked another Memorandum of Understanding on collaboration in the medical arena. This agreement will foster greater collaboration in the development of human resources within the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries, as well as cooperative efforts on research and innovation in areas of shared interest. Additionally, the deal will support New Delhi’s initiatives to advance Indian medical experts in Singapore.

Singapore’s Ministry of Education and India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship inked the final agreement on educational collaboration and skills development. This agreement will supplement the continuing active engagement in skill development and aim for tighter cooperation in the areas of technical and vocational education and training.
