Over the next five years, Taiwan’s Delta Electronics wants to nearly double its staff in India, including the establishment of its largest research center there. India has been playing an increasingly important role in the global IT industry.
The company launched the R&D center in the southern city of Bengaluru and announced ambitions to add 3,000 staff in five years, up from roughly 3,500 today. The company distributes power components to other industries.
In order to be nearer to its production facilities in the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu, Delta Electronics, which now has three research and development centers in India, announced that it would relocate its local headquarters from Gurgaon, the northern hub, to Bengaluru.
Significant tech businesses have long called Bengaluru, sometimes known as the Silicon Valley of India, home, which facilitates talent attraction.
“We consider Bengaluru the right place for us to attract more talents and also for our future developments,” Benjamin Lin, the president of Delta Electronics India, said at an event in the city.
Part of the company’s $500 million investment in India is the new R&D center. Although that was declared in 2015-16, the COVID-19 epidemic caused a delay in the execution.
According to data from industry association Nasscom, foreign companies have established 118 global capability centers (GCCs) in India in the last two years, bringing the total to over 1,620. This development is attributed to the country’s transformation from an inexpensive back office location to a high-value innovation hub.
According to ICICI Securities, the GCCs will increase their current contribution of less than 1% to India’s GDP to almost 2% by 2030.
