According to a Square Yards article, Microsoft has made another significant acquisition in the Indian real estate market by purchasing a plot of land in Pune’s IT district, Hinjewadi, for Rs 519.72 crore. This acquisition demonstrates the tech company’s increasing presence in India, especially in the creation of office buildings and data centers.
In August 2024, Microsoft Corporation (India) Private Limited, the company’s Indian affiliate, acquired 66,414.5 square meters, or around 16.4 acres, of land. Indo Global Infotech City LLP was the seller. A substantial stamp duty of Rs 31.18 crore and a registration charge of Rs 30,000 were attached to the transaction.
Microsoft has already made significant property deals in India. For Rs 328 crore in 2022, the business purchased a 25-acre land in Pimpri-Chinchwad. Microsoft paid Rs 267 crore to purchase an additional 48 acres of land in Hyderabad earlier in 2024. These acquisitions are in line with its larger plan to increase its presence in India’s technology sector, especially in relation to its data center business.
Microsoft already maintains a strong presence in India thanks to its data centers located in Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune. Building on this base, the business keeps investing more in IT infrastructure.
In cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune, Microsoft employs nearly 23,000 individuals to support a variety of areas, including customer support, sales, research, and development.
In addition to its real estate holdings, Microsoft is boosting its talent development programs. It began “ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA,” a significant initiative, in early 2024 with the goal of providing 2 million Indians with digital and AI skills by 2025. This is a component of the business’s “Skills for Jobs” program, which attempts to equip workers for the workforce of the future.
