A resident of Dhanori fell victim to a clever scam on the Telegram channel “Happcode,” in an alarming instance of cybercrime. As part of their dishonest plan, the con artists had deceitfully promised work-from-home chances, taking advantage of the victim’s confidence and her savings. The victim of the scam, which promised significant financial rewards in return for an initial investment, has suffered an incredible financial loss.
The victims claim that the scam artists approached her first and persuaded her to part with ₹1000. They promised her that she would make a substantial amount of money from this first payment. But following the initial payment, the con artists persisted in requesting additional funds under a variety of false pretenses while persistently claiming that earlier donations would be reimbursed. Relying on their promises, she completed 13 transactions totaling ₹362,680.
She paid repeatedly, but the promised returns never showed up. The victim, who is distraught and broke, has lodged a formal complaint on the cybercrime portal cybercrime.gov.in, including an acknowledgment number for additional follow-up.
The Sinhgad Police filed a case against a cyber fraudster earlier in August after the latter fooled a 74-year-old man out of ₹49.20 lakh by pretending to be a police officer. Over the phone, the accused coerced the elderly victim into sending the money by intimidating him.
Pune residents are becoming more concerned about rising cyber fraud, and they should use caution when interacting with strangers online.
Both incidences have been noted by the Pune City Cyber Cell, which is dedicated to conducting a comprehensive investigation.
