A group that was smuggling pre-activated SIM cards belonging to an Indian private cellular provider from Kolkata to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was busted by the bank fraud unit of KP’s police department. According to the police, these cards were utilized in cybercrimes.
There are four South 24 Parganas residents under arrest.
“Cyber criminals in Cambodia used the SIMs. On April 3, a consignment booked with a private courier for Phnom Penh was intercepted, and 361 pre-activated SIM cards were found in the lids of two coffee bottles. Of them, 243 SIMs were issued from 15 POS under Kolkata Police,” said additional CP (I) Murlidhar Sharma.
