If you’re using Kaspersky antivirus software in the US, it’s being deleted and replaced by antivirus protection from a different company, UltraAV. The Moscow-based cybersecurity company says the switch was communicated to customers by email but apparently is still taking some by surprise, according to Media.

The Department of Commerce’s sanctions against Kaspersky, which forbid the business’s software, prompted the company to announce in July that it would be leaving the US market, which is why the company made the decision to move.

In an email to CNET, Kaspersky claims that in order to secure its US-based clientele, it collaborated with UltraAV, a business that is a subsidiary of the Burlington, Massachusetts-based Pango Group holding company.

“Information about the transition has been communicated to all US users eligible for the replacement in a series of email communications by Kaspersky and UltraAV,” the company said in a statement. “Kaspersky and UltraAV are implementing the transition in waves to ensure the process is smooth and that the users will not experience a gap in their protection upon Kaspersky’s exit from the market.”

Comprehensive details regarding the switch and the UltraAV device are available on a webpage. The program, according to the business, comes with a password manager, VPN, and identity theft protection. Up to 20 devices can use its antivirus program; however, iOS devices are not included in that count. Nonetheless, the business does provide its UltraVPN app for iOS.

According to UltraAV, consumers will receive information on how to activate their new accounts, and invoicing and prices won’t change.

In a feature comparison chart, UltraAV claims to include features like real-time authentication alerts, high-risk transaction monitoring, and $1 million identity theft insurance that Kaspersky software does not; however, it does not have camera protection or online payment protection. Customers started receiving emails about the change on September 5, according to UltraAV. Notifications were also displayed on the Kaspersky app and account sites.

The FAQ for UltraAV states that the deadline for Kaspersky support or updates is September 30.
