According to people familiar with the issue, seven police personnel from the Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, Cyber Cell have been suspended for allegedly following Superintendent of Police (SP) Jyeshtha Maitrei’s mobile phone location without permission. Sub-Inspector Shravan Joshi, the leader of the district Cyber Cell, is one of the suspended policemen. Following a preliminary investigation that verified the claims made by the Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, the suspensions were implemented.

According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ajay Pal Lamba of the Jaipur region, SP Maitrei’s whereabouts were traced by the Cyber Cell officers fifteen times in total. “This is an unprecedented incident, and it constitutes a criminal act,” Lamba remarked.

The reasons behind the tracking are yet unclear. Lamba stressed that determining the motive will be the main goal of the current investigation. He said that a deputy SP has been assigned to oversee the investigation and will provide a report in the coming days. Following that, the concerned staff members will face the proper consequences.

SP Jyeshtha Maitrei, a 2017 batch IPS officer, expressed her distress over the situation, stating, “I am the victim of this conspiracy, so how can I provide the details?” Maitrei had earlier lodged a complaint with police headquarters, leading to the suspensions.

Apart from SI Shravan Joshi, the other suspended officers are Constables Rahul, Satish, Deepak, Bhim, and Rohitash; also included is Head Constable Avnish Kumar.

Hailing from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, SP Maitrei cleared the Civil Services Examination in 2017. 2018 saw her finish her training and assume leadership of Udaipur’s Girwa Circle as the Assistant SP. Before taking up her current position in Bhiwadi, she held positions as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Crime Branch in Jaipur and the SP of Bhilwara.
