Police stated on Wednesday that more than 20 Chinese nationals who were believed to be involved in cybercrime had been taken into custody from a suburban region close to Colombo, where they were lodging without a valid visa.

The 20 Chinese nationals, who ranged in age from 22 to 49, were taken into custody at a hotel located in Panadura’s Gorakana neighbourhood, a suburb situated south of Colombo. Police raided the hotel after receiving a tip, seizing five laptops, 437 cell phones—including two iPhones—17 routers, and other equipment that were perhaps connected to financial scams, according to local media that quoted police.

If this Chinese organisation is connected to the other Chinese group that was detained in the Hanwella neighbourhood of nearby Sri Lanka for conducting cyber-online frauds, more research will be conducted to determine this. In that particular example, up to 30 Chinese nationals and six other people were taken into custody at Hanwella on Sunday.
