National Cybercrime Helpline Call Centre launched by Punjab to Help Victims of Cyber Fraud

Gaurav Yadav, the director general of police for Punjab, recently opened a call centre for the national cybercrime helpline and implemented a chatbot to support victims of fraud. In order to learn how the hotline worked, he tested it during the launch by dialling 1930 and speaking with a contact centre executive.

The Ministry of Home Affairs’ infrastructure for reporting and handling financial cyber scams includes the Cyber Helpline 1930. After filing a complaint, it enables victims to immediately freeze money in suspects’ accounts. Since September 2021, this helpline has been operational in Punjab.

Cybercrime Reporting Enhancements

These developments would enhance the reporting of cybercrimes and speed up the settlement of financial fraud cases, DGP Yadav emphasized. Instant access to information and 24/7 support is provided via the Cyber Mittar Chatbot, which guarantees private reporting to protect citizens’ personal information.

You can reach the chatbot at cybercrime.punjabpolice.gov.in. Among its many benefits is its round-the-clock assistance, which allows people to report problems whenever it is most convenient for them rather than during police station hours.

Impact and Success Rate

The 1930 helpline and Punjab’s National Cybercrime Reporting Portal have received 26,625 complaints on different types of cyber fraud since they opened. In 2024, the Cybercrime Cell achieved a 17% success rate by taking proactive measures to freeze or lien mark funds that cybercriminals had transferred out of victims’ accounts.

DGP Yadav claims that a lien of Rs 57 crore has been placed on the bank accounts of alleged scammers on behalf of victims. This program shows the dedication to efficiently combating cybercrime and shielding citizens from monetary damages.

The implementation of these tools represents a major advancement in Punjab’s fight against cybercrime. Authorities hope to increase public trust and guarantee a safer online environment for all citizens by offering easily available materials and prompt responses.
