LS Speaker Birla argues at the Inter-Parliamentary Union for AI regulation

Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla presented a compelling case on Monday for a suitable legislative framework that would protect data privacy, guarantee the appropriate application of artificial intelligence, and ensure that the advantages of technology are shared fairly. Speaking at the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva, Birla stated that India has long been a fervent supporter of multilateralism and that inter-parliamentary communication and collaboration in the areas of science, technology, and innovation are essential for the common good.

‘Harnessing science, technology, and innovation for a more peaceful and sustainable future’ is the topic of the IPU Assembly.

The speaker of the Lok Sabha was adamant that parliaments everywhere should work together to guarantee a just and equal distribution of the advantages of innovation, research, and technology. She also urged the international platform to discuss these matters.

He said he hoped that by working together and sharing action plans, parliaments might use an IPU-style platform to help pave the path for inclusive growth worldwide. In order to ensure that the benefits of technological developments are distributed fairly and used responsibly to create a future that is inclusive, resilient, and peaceful, Birla urged the confluence of scientific research, technical advancements, and creative initiatives.

According to Birla, India’s renewable energy capacity has grown from 76 GW to 203 GW during the past ten years, helping to lessen the effects of climate change.

He claimed that programs like the International Solar Alliance, Bio-Fuel Alliance, and Green Hydrogen Mission demonstrated India’s resolve to combat climate change.

According to Birla, Parliament has extensively debated the topics of climate change and sustainable development goals.

Additionally, he mentioned that the new building was constructed with the highest possible usage of green technology, demonstrating our dedication to green energy.

The IPU, a global association of national parliaments with more than 180 members and 15 regional legislative bodies, was established in 1880.
