Meeting face-to-face in the heart of Europe’s digital economy, heads of oil and gas companies, refineries, EPCs, pipeline operators, drilling contractors, and service and equipment providers joined the Oil and Gas Automation and Digitalization Congress (AUTOMA) 2024 in Düsseldorf, Germany, on 14-16 October. This year, AUTOMA emphasized the importance of digitalization in driving the industry to the green future.
AUTOMA is a B2B networking event organized by BGS Group and dedicated to the digital transformation of the oil and gas industry within all sectors—upstream, midstream, and downstream. In 2024, AUTOMA trilled to welcome Shell Energy & Chemicals Park Rheinland as the host sponsor of the Congress. This facility is actively engaged in developing and implementing sustainable solutions to drive the energy transition and reduce carbon emissions.
During the two days of the business programme, over 60 speakers discussed the key challenges and approaches for digitalizing the energy sector, including Shell, SOCAR Turkiye Energy, McDermott, Aramco Overseas Company B.V., OMV Downstream, Italgas, ADNOC Distribution, PETROBRAS—PPetroleo Brasileiro S.A., and others.
The main topics of the agenda covered: solutions for CO2 transportation, predictive maintenance tools, future fuels of refineries, digitalization for energy transition and energy efficiency, digital twin for asset management, implementing digital technologies in value chain operations, and many others.
Under the topic “Accelerating innovation for a carbon-neutral future,” the first day began with the executive opening panel. Starting from the welcoming speech from Yuliya Glazyrina, Project Director of AUTOMA 2024, the panel featured presentations from Shell Energy & Chemicals Park Rheinland, Ericsson, Hexxcell, DESFA, and Italgas.
Alongside speaker presentations, 50+ exhibitors showcased their technological advancements and services at the focus exhibition. AUTOMA 2024 provided the setting with the selected number of companies for each segment. Tata Consultancy Services, Imubit, Sitecraft, Jama Software, NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme, Cenosco, SES Networks & Marlink, and others took their chances to present services and equipment to the potential customers.
On the 3rd day, AUTOMA offered an exclusive visit to the facilities of the esteemed partners, Shell Energy & Chemicals Park Rheinland and Henkel AG & Co. KGaA. During the guided tour of both the Wesseling and Godorf sites, the Congress delegation explored the recently opened plant and green hydrogen electrolysis Refhyne I. Following the Shell visit, delegates explored the newly built Inspiration Center at Henkel’s global headquarters in Düsseldorf.
Next year, AUTOMA is going to be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on 13-14 October. AUTOMA welcomes oil and gas professionals to join and unlock valuable connections to transform the industry.
