The government has launched a new national helpline number to combat the growing number of cyber fraud cases. The national helpline number has been formally changed from 155260 to 1930 by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The Department of Telecommunications has released information about this new helpline via its official X account. Those who have been the victims of financial fraud are the target audience for this helpline. People can also use the National Cyber Crime Portal to lodge concerns.
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) initiated this program to provide Indian residents with a safer online payment environment. This 4-digit helpline, which is run by the relevant state police forces, is open at all times for victims of cyber fraud.
Fraudsters will face no leniency.
Upon receiving a complaint via this number, a ticket will be created in the Fraud Reporting and Management System, and detailed information about the cyber fraud will be collected. To guarantee that the compromised funds may be frozen, this information will then be sent to the appropriate bank, wallet provider, or merchant. Even if hackers have already moved the money to their bank accounts, they will not be able to access it until it has been blocked. Until the money is recovered, this process will be carried out with diligence.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), all public and private sector banks, and online wallet providers have collaborated to create the National Helpline Number. Even people without internet access can report cybercrimes thanks to this helpline. Notably, filing such a report does not necessitate going to a police station.
