Standard Chartered Bank has announced leadership changes in response to the Chief Technology & Operations Officer’s departure. The new hire for the role was subsequently announced.
Peter Gitau’s retirement as Chief Technology & Operations Officer, effective November 25, 2024, was announced by Standard Chartered Bank in a notification dated November 20, 2024. Additionally, he resigned from his position on the Board of Directors.
“Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited wishes to announce that Peter Gitau will be stepping down as a member of the Board of Directors and as the Chief Technology & Operations Officer effective 25 November 2024,” read the notice in part.
New appointment
Jaine Mwai was named the new Chief Technology & Operations Officer by Standard Chartered Bank in the same announcement.
“The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Jaine Mwai as our Chief Technology and Operations Officer The appointment is subject to the approval of the Central Bank of effect once the approval is received of Kenya and will take effect once the approval is received,” read a part of the notice.
The Bank claims that Mwai will significantly advance the Bank’s strategic initiatives with her wealth of experience and transformative leadership. Her experience in strategy creation, program implementation, and execution has been honed during her tenure in a number of top management positions.
Education Background
Mwai has a graduate diploma in public accounting from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and a bachelor’s degree in management economics from the University of Guelph in Ontario. She is also a graduate of the Federation of Kenya Employers’ Female Future Leadership Development Program. Additionally, she is certified in Artificial Intelligence Implications for Business Strategy from the MIT Sloan School of Management and Digital Transformation Strategy from the Yale School of Management.
Three months after Standard Chartered Bank added two members to its board of directors, these modifications have taken place. In August 2024, Edith Chumba and Beverly Spencer Obatoyibo were added to the board.
