New CIO appointed for BPA

November 20—PORTLAND, Ore. : The Bonneville Power Administration BPA announced Wednesday that Chris Wilk has been appointed as its new chief information officer and executive vice president of information technology, effective Dec. 1.

Wilk, who previously served as the acting CIO at BPA earlier in 2024, will take over the role from Nita Zimmerman, who will revert to her position as the chief business transformation officer.

“Chris brings to BPA a depth of experience in civil service, industry, and the military that gives him a uniquely well-rounded perspective,” BPA’s Chief Administrative Officer Robin Furrer said. “He combines his leadership and people skills with technical competencies to leverage technology, enabling organizations to achieve their strategic objectives.”

Wilk arrived at BPA after a three-year tenure as CIO at the Southeastern Power Administration, where he managed vital IT and cybersecurity initiatives for the agency. In his new role, Wilk will oversee BPA’s technology systems, ensuring they align with the agency’s mission and objectives while complying with federal regulations and industry standards.

“In his short time with BPA, Chris has already demonstrated skilled decision-making and expertise that has positioned BPA to meet strategic objectives and industry-leading goals,” BPA Administrator and CEO, John Hairston said. “I have full faith in Chris as he continues championing advancements that enhance our operational resilience.”

Wilk, who holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Colorado and two master’s degrees — an MBA from Colorado State University and an M.S. from Western Governors University — has a background in military service. He was commissioned through the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School and served in assignments including with the 10th Mountain Division during Operation Enduring Freedom and various leadership roles in the Army’s IT sector.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as BPA’s chief information officer,” Wilk said. “Technology is a key partner and enabler, supporting nearly all aspects of our agency’s mission. I look forward to working with BPA’s diverse and talented workforce as we help move the agency forward during a time of critical transformation.”

BPA is one of the partners overseeing the operation of the Grand Coulee Dam.
