Amazon India is getting ready to deploy its fast commerce service, reportedlycodenamed Tez, as early as December 2024 or early the following year. According to those familiar with the development, the program, which focuses on delivering groceries and other necessities, will be Amazon’s first international foray into the rapid commerce market.
According to reports, the service would use a dark-store format, which will improve logistics and inventory control and allow for quicker deliveries. Amazon is already improving its grocery delivery services under AmazonFresh to enable faster delivery times, which in some locations presently range from 20 to 30 minutes.
According to a recent job offering from Amazon’s grocery and basics team, the project is a “ground-up initiative” that aims to capitalize on India’s rapidly expanding quick commerce market. To bolster its efforts in this area, the corporation has also started employing people.
Leading companies like Blinkit, Swiggy, Instamart, and Zepto together generated over $1 billion in revenue in FY24, reflecting the spike in demand in India’s rapid commerce market. The battle has gotten more intense as rivals like Flipkart and BigBasket have increased their footprint in the market.
To carry out the project, Amazon India is anticipated to make use of both its current delivery network and outside logistics partners. The company’s readiness to scale operations for its new service is demonstrated by the recent expansion of its grocery delivery division to 130 cities, up from 50 a year earlier.
The introduction coincides with the quick commerce industry’s explosive growth, which is being pushed by customer demand for quicker deliveries in urban markets. Tez might establish Amazon India as a powerful force in this changing market if it is successful.
