Nokia Signs Agreement with Airtel to Expand Their 5G Network

Nokia and Bharti Airtel have inked a multi-year contract for the deployment of 4G and 5G equipment in strategic Indian regions. The anticipated billion-dollar transaction will be crucial to Airtel’s network infrastructure expansion and capability upgrades.

Base stations, baseband units, and Massive MIMO radios with ReefShark System-on-Chip technology are among the 5G AirScale equipment that Nokia will supply under the arrangement. The technology supports the ongoing 5G transition while attempting to increase Airtel’s network capacity and efficiency.

Nokia will enhance Airtel’s 4G network with cutting-edge multiband radios and 5G-ready baseband units in addition to implementing 5G infrastructure, guaranteeing smooth scalability for future requirements. Additionally, for effective network setup, monitoring, and optimization, Nokia will use its AI-powered MantaRay Network Management solution.

This partnership coincides with the rapid rollout of 5G in India’s telecom industry, where key operators are concentrating on updating their infrastructure to meet the rising demand. As part of its larger plan to provide better connectivity while lessening its impact on the environment, Airtel is working to grow its network.

With the recent introduction of the Green 5G Initiative by Airtel and Nokia, both businesses have demonstrated their dedication to sustainability. This initiative aims to increase telecom networks’ energy efficiency and support Airtel’s carbon reduction objectives.

Over the course of two decades, Nokia and Airtel have collaborated on projects involving multiple network technology generations, including 2G, 3G, and 4G. Given that India wants to be at the forefront of 5G adoption and innovation, the current expansion highlights the significance of long-term partnerships in forming the telecom landscape in that nation.

With Airtel putting itself in a position to compete more successfully in the changing telecom industry, this transaction shows India’s rising emphasis on bolstering its digital infrastructure.
