An artificial intelligence (AI)-based solution has been implemented by telecom provider Vodafone Idea (Vi) to identify and flag spam messages sent to Vi’s consumers.
The company stated in a statement on Monday that the technology has already identified over 24 million spam communications since its first testing phase.
“As more customers embrace digital communication, we recognize the growing threat posed by SMS-based spams and potential scam attempts,” said Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea Limited.
“Our AI-powered spam detection technology reinforces our commitment to customer safety by delivering proactive, real-time protection,” he said. Millions of SMS instances are used to teach Vi’s AI algorithms to detect possible dangers, including phony links, illegal marketing, and identity theft attempts. According to the report, predictive AI systems can improve their detection capabilities over time by learning from incoming data patterns, including phishing URLs, odd sender information, and phrases frequently found in spam communications.
The second-biggest telecom carrier in India, Bharti Airtel, also introduced an AI-powered tool in September to warn smartphone customers about possible spam texts.
According to a prior statement, Airtel’s solution has demonstrated effectiveness in predicting over 99% of spam messages and 97% of spam calls by processing one trillion records in real-time.
