Man detained for creating bank accounts for cybercriminals by using financial incentives to entice members of economically disadvantaged groups.
These accounts were used in ways that made it almost impossible to track them down. The UP resident was apprehended with damning proof, according to Ayodhya Nagar police.
In cyber fraud instances, this is the second significant arrest in as many months. A seven-person group that was giving mobile SIM cards to scammers was previously nabbed by Hanumanganj police.
The city is becoming more vulnerable to cybercrimes and runs the risk of becoming a hotspot for cybercrime as a result of these pervasive scams and rackets. Mahesh Lilhare, the SHO of Ayodhya Nagar, stated that the police located the accused close to Gate No. 4 of Minal Residency after receiving a tip. Incriminating evidence led to the arrest of the defendant, Atif Khan, 30, a native of Lalitpur, Uttar Pradesh. For the past year, Atif had been living in Sankhedi, Kolar. Account kits from a private bank, containing passbooks, checkbooks, ATM cards with different names, and four mobile SIM cards, were found in his suitcase.
According to SHO Lilhare, initial inquiries showed that Atif offered Rs 5,000 to open bank accounts to people from economically disadvantaged groups, including laborers and slum dwellers. For a commission of Rs 5,000 per account, he would thereafter sell these accounts to online scammers. These accounts were blocked after fraudsters used them for one to three weeks, making it nearly hard to track them down.
