Telanaga has become a prime target for scammers due to the startling increase in cybercrime cases and the historically high number of victims and cybercrooks. Since people frequently engage in such cyber duping or assist cyber gangs in fraud, experts link this tendency to the allure of quick money.

A Disturbing Statistics

In November, the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau reported 508 cases in the state and detained 48 people connected to 2,194 cybercrimes nationally. According to investigations, several of the defendants loaned their accounts to gangs based in northern states in addition to committing cybercrimes.

An individual acting as a Mumbai crime branch officer called Ashok Kumar Behara, a 69-year-old retired doctor from Odisha. He was forced to transfer his whole bank balance by the fraudster, who claimed that he was involved in criminal activities and promised to repay it after verification. After losing ₹1 crore and not receiving her money back, Behara went to the police. One Abdul Salim from Nizamabad, who had previously worked in Saudi Arabia before turning to cybercrime, was arrested as a result of investigations.

Shinde Pranai from Nirmal was caught by authorities in May after he and others used the personal information of around 150 people from Bhainsa Mandal to register mule accounts. Money that had been taken was siphoned off and transferred to other accounts.

Telangana’s Worrying Trend

The state has made more than 80 arrests so far this year, and the graph indicates no signs of plateauing. In 2024, cybercriminals have already defrauded people out of ₹1,500 crore. Cybergangs in the north take advantage of young people who speak Telugu by enticing them with employment offers and pressuring them to engage in criminal activity. According to reports, Telugu youngsters have been transported by Chinese gangs to nations like Cambodia and Myanmar, where they are forced to conduct cybercrime. Authorities caution that a growing number of these crimes are being planned from within Telangana, with local teenagers playing a key role.

A Rising Crime Culture

Authorities discuss a troubling trend in which young people who have been exposed to cybercrimes or who were formerly part of cybergangs are being lured into the profitable realm of online fraud. This expanding “culture of crime” is a serious problem.

Preventive Measures

By focusing on the causes of these actions and increasing awareness, cybersecurity officials are attempting to buck this trend. Stricter measures, early interventions, and more monitoring are being used to prevent cybercrimes and safeguard populations that are at risk. Experts advise people to exercise caution as cybercrime develops and refrain from disclosing private information or falling for dubious scams.
