Haryana police saved around Rs 268.40 crore from cybercriminals and leads the nation in cyber fraud

In terms of combating cyber fraud in 2024, the Haryana police claimed to be the best in the nation. Additionally, according to the police, it prevented cybercriminals from stealing almost Rs 268.40 crore, as opposed to Rs 76.85 crore in 2023. This sum is five times greater than what was saved in 2022 and three times greater than what was saved in 2024 compared to 2023. Shatrujeet Kapur, the director general of police (DGP), commended the entire team on Thursday.

According to the DGP, the police are also prosecuting cybercriminals and locking them up. 2,165 cases were filed against hackers in 2022; 2,747 cases were filed in 2023; and 5,511 cases were filed in 2024. Similarly, 1,078 people were arrested by the police in 2022, 1,909 in 2023, and 5,156 in 2024. Seventy percent (3,555) of all offenders apprehended in 2024 come from other states. In 2024, authorities nabbed 14 cybercriminals per day on average.

According to Kapur, a plan was created to stop cybercrime by closely examining the tactics used by thieves. The number of police officers with technological expertise assigned to the cyber helpline 1930 was raised from 12 to 70 in September 2023. Similarly, bank officials were urged to cooperate with the police during discussions with them. Because of this, ten large banks’ fifteen nodal officers are collaborating on a platform today to stop cybercrime.

70% of the stolen money is stopped if a report is filed within six hours of the cyber crime, which is the highest percentage in the nation. Prior to September 2023, Haryana police were 23rd in the nation for the number of cyberfraud blocks, but they are currently in first place.

Additionally, it was reported that four Haryana police officers have been assigned to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) of the Indian government, where important measures are being taken to stop cybercrime in partnership with 20 major banks and fintech firms nationwide. In 2024, the nation’s greatest number of bank accounts and mobile phones used in cybercrime—2,83,589 and 1,24,565—were closed.
