U.S. Government Welcomes New Federal Chief Information Officer, Gregory Barbaccia

Gregory Barbaccia has been appointed the new Federal Chief Information Officer (CIO) by the U.S. government. With a wealth of experience in the private sector, Barbaccia most recently served as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Theorem, a company specializing in machine learning-based asset management.

In his role at Theorem, Barbaccia was responsible for managing critical security operations during a significant acquisition by Pagaya Technologies. His career also includes contributions to blockchain intelligence at Elementus and a long tenure at Palantir, where he developed expertise in data analytics and intelligence. Barbaccia’s background as a U.S. Army intelligence sergeant and intelligence community analyst further strengthens his qualifications for his new role.

As the Federal CIO, Barbaccia will be charged with directing IT policy and strategy for the federal government, managing IT budgets, and working alongside the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on key modernization projects.

“I look forward to leveraging my experience to strengthen and modernize federal IT systems, ensuring they are secure, efficient, and forward-looking to meet the needs of the American people,” Barbaccia shared in a LinkedIn post announcing his appointment.
