The Russian hacker group claims to have access to staff and chief physicians of every Indian hospital

Phoenix, a pro-Russian hacker group claims that several cyber-attacks on the Indian Health Ministry have been launched by them. Also, the Russian hacker group said that sensitive information on hospitals, staff, patients and more is under the possession of the group.

CloudSEK’s contextual AI digital risk platform XVigil discovered the hack. A conclusion was made after analysing the data that the affected entity was the Health Management Information System belonging to the Indian Ministry of Health.

The Russian hacker group Phoenix, which is a part of the pro-Russian group Killnet, now has access to the systems of India’s Ministry of Health, according to a post shared on their Telegram channel.

The Russian hacker group claims to have access to staff and chief physicians of every Indian hospital.

This revelation comes months after the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) system witnessed a massive crash. An FIR for cyber terrorism and extortion was filed to begin probing the hacking of AIIMS servers by foreign-based players. Multiple probe agencies were roped in to recover the systems.

The motive behind the attack is believed to be the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation, as Indian authorities decided not to violate the sanctions and to comply with the price ceiling for Russian oil approved by G7 countries.

This was the most significant ransomware cyber-attack on a reputed medical institution in recent times. Services are still down at AIIMS, and it is running in manual mode.

“It appears that this attack was a response to a poll conducted in the Killnet group, in which India was criticized for not condemning European nations’ sanctions against Russia. The attack seems to be a continuation of the discussion that took place in the group, highlighting the strong opinions and tensions around this issue,” read a tweet by Falcon Feedsio while sharing details of the security incident.

The Indian Ministry of Health is yet to comment on the claims.
