Government sends warnings to e-commerce companies who do not have mandatory details on products

As per the reminders sent to Flipkart India Pvt Ltd and Amazon Development Center India Pvt Ltd, they are e-commerce organisations and must therefore ensure that all mandatory statements are shown on the digital and electronic platform used for e-commerce transactions.

NEW DELHI: On Friday, the Government issued notifications to Flipkart , Amazon and other e-commerce businesses that do not automatically view information, like country of origin, on goods sold on their platforms.

Notices is provided by the Department of customer relations, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

Besides Amazon and Flipkart, alerts were also sent to other e-commerce players, sources said.

The businesses were requested to respond to the alerts within 15 days.

“It has been noted that a few of the e-commerce companies do not show the necessary statement on online platforms required by the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules of 2011,” said one of the similar notices.

According to the reminders sent to Flipkart India Pvt Ltd and Amazon Production Centre India Pvt Ltd, they are e-commerce organisations and therefore must insure that all required statements are shown on the digitalized platform used for e-commerce transactions.

As per the notices, the two organizations have not made a necessary statement and are in contravention of the Act.
