A technology leader has to constantly learn and implement new technologies and techniques.
This is an exclusive article series conducted by the Editor Team of CIO News with Manish Panjwani, Chief Technology Officer at Shriram Automall India Group.
The technology and business landscape is undergoing through unprecedented change. New technologies emerge seemingly overnight, industries are disrupted, and customer expectations shift at a dizzying pace. These are the best time in the history of human mankind. Thus, It is crucial for a technology leaders to be versatile, be it in terms of technologies, domains, or business functions.
A technology leader is a business leader who understands how businesses will be delivered and how technology will enable efficient and effective business delivery. My passion lies in leveraging technology to drive innovation, solve complex problems, and deliver business value.
A technology leader is a multi-functional expert who knows every function (be it sales, marketing, customer service, accounts, etc.) at its core and is able to deliver the solution for the same. With the profound use of technology in core business activity and all supporting functions, technology leads to innovation that enables people to achieve better business outcomes and individual goals. A technology leader has to constantly learn and implement new technologies and techniques.
My life experience and my desire to keep learning have had a profound impact on my personal and professional lives. The technology landscape is ever-evolving. With adoption, we can stay relevant. After successfully delivering some of the complex Vision-AI and Data Science products, I’m on quantum computing.
I feel my past entrepreneurial ventures in FinTech and EdTech start-ups have had a profound impact on me. It is imperative to think, plan, and execute to be able to provide advancements. The career trajectory is influenced by the ability to identify opportunities and risks, which eventually increases the capacity to take critical decisions faster and more accurately. I believe in decisions based on research and data-driven analytics in view of business dimensions.
I find it hard writing such article where there is so much of “I”. The ground reality is none of the achievements are achieved with “I”. Organizations are built with people and having right bunch of people is a blessing. And I’ve been fortunate all through my 20+ years with such smart, people focused good humans. I’m surrounded by culture which is based on character, innovation and aptitude. An environment which encourages open communication, empowering people, highly collaborative and continuous learning.
I consider myself fortunate to learn from various cultures, be they Japanese, American, European, or native Indian. Exposure helped me open up to diverse cultures and adapt to new ideas, technologies, management, leadership, geographies, etc.
My large part of learning comes from participating in various events and forums as moderator and speaker. I feel networking events are also a huge opportunity to learn from other industry experts and bring faster growth to our own organization. Mentoring is another way to expand the horizons of learning, and when it comes to tier-1 institutes and hackathons with Delhi Technological University (DTU), the game is next level. I always look forward to such mentoring programs.
Collaboration is the key to success. So, when we bring a certain technology solution to a unique business case, we look to improvise. A collaboration with IIT-Delhi and other such institutions proves to be a milestone in the overall success of the solution and business.
As a leader in the technology field, it’s crucial to select the right individuals, regardless of their position within the team hierarchy. Team dynamics thrive when members are given the freedom to learn from mistakes, with a focus on the 3Ts: technology, training, and tools.
