Sam Altman revealed that Aleksander Madry, the AI safety leader of ChatGPT maker, OpenAI was starting a new research project as the startup reorganized the preparedness team.
As the startup reorganizes the readiness team, OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman announced on Tuesday that Aleksander Madry, the AI safety leader of ChatGPT manufacturer, was embarking on a new research project. In a post on X, Altman stated, “Aleksander is working on a new and very important research project,” and he added that the readiness team would be temporarily taken over by OpenAI executives Joaquin Quinonero Candela and Lilian Weng.
As stated in a statement by an OpenAI representative, Madry will assume a more significant role inside the research organization after the transfer, and the preparation team assists in assessing the artificial general intelligence readiness of the company’s AI models. “As part of unifying our safety work, Joaquin and Lilian are taking over the preparedness team,” Altman stated.
According to sources that broke the story of Madry’s departure first, Tejal Patwardhan, a researcher, will oversee the majority of the team’s work. The actions are a response to the growing power and safety issues caused by OpenAI’s chatbots, which can converse like humans and produce images and videos in response to text commands. Prior to training its next AI model, the Microsoft-backed (MSFT.O) business established a Safety and Security Committee earlier this year, to be chaired by board members, including CEO Sam Altman.
