Sify Technologies, a provider of IT solutions and data centers, said on Tuesday that it can now support Al servers with approved liquid cooling technology and has become an NVIDIA colocation partner.
“With this certification, our data centers in Mumbai-Rabale, Noida, and Chennai-Siruserri are ready to support 7-8 GPU (graphics processing units) servers per rack, which is approximately 130-kilowatt capacity per rack. This could cater to hyperscalers or any enterprise needs for AI computation in the country,” said Sharad Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer of Sify Infinit Spaces Limited.
He clarified that in order for data centers to become AI-ready, the proper infrastructure is necessary because GPU computing has high power and cooling requirements.
Globally, liquid cooling methods—which submerge servers in a liquid coolant to dissipate heat—are becoming the norm for handling Al workloads. This lessens reliance on air and water cooling.
However, Agarwal said that compared to generic CPU servers, operating costs for supporting GPUs are much greater. According to the executive, Sify is now qualified to take part in the IndiaAI Mission and submit a competitive offer by assembling the appropriate consortium partners.
“AI missions have multiple layers. At this point in time, Sify Infinit Spaces Limited is the only player who can create the infrastructure where anyone and everyone can come and host whatever kind of AI load they want to host. So that way we are qualified as part of the AI mission,” he said.
With 190 MW of installed capacity spread across 12 centers in 6 cities—Mumbai, Noida, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Bangalore—as well as two new facilities in Noida and Chennai, Sify is one of the top data center operators. Within the next few years, 350 MW is what Sify hopes to provide.
“We are in such a scenario of a heavy demand scenario, and there are good projections around a lot of activity likely to happen in India, and India seems to be a sweet spot for not just endemic demand but lots of non-endemic demands,” Agarwal said.
Sify Infinit Spaces Limited (SISL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sify Technologies Limited, received a Rs 600 crore investment from Kotak Data Center Fund (KDCF), which is managed by Kotak Alternate Asset Managers Limited (KotakAlt), in September of last year.
The purpose of the investment is to increase SISL’s data center capacity throughout India and to make investments in green power. KotakAlt has committed a total of Rs 1,600 crore in equity to SISL.
