Bill Gates stated that such worries are hysterical because software developers and their talents will always be in demand.
AI has both potential benefits and drawbacks, according to Bill Gates, but software programmers may still be needed in the future. During a conversation with Nikhil Kamath of Zerodha, the co-founder of Microsoft, he stated that artificial intelligence (AI) holds great potential in fields such as education and healthcare, where its advancements are already enhancing productivity.
He said, “The amazing thing about this technology is that we know it can help in key areas and we know it can create educational tutors, and we have seen several projects in India and the US that are showing great results. The potential is incredible if we knew that all it did was make jobs more productive.”
Regarding the question of whether AI will eliminate the need for software engineers, Bill Gates stated that such worries are hysterical because software developers and their talents will always be in demand. He said, “We still need those software engineers, as we are not going to stop needing them.”
But will there be a point where AI could potentially replace all jobs? Bill Gates said that if it “reaches a point of complete replacement, it will be a world of excess, which may be wonderful for old people or handicapped people, but this may be a point where the very organizing principles of society and what we value” may begin to alter and be dismantled.
Bill Gates calmed concerns by stating that this won’t occur for at least the next 20 years after issuing the warning.
Jokingly, he said, “Although I am not sure of that.”
