Indichip Semiconductors Ltd. and its Japanese joint venture partner Yitoa Micro Technology (YMTL) signed a deal on saturday with the Andhra Pradesh government to spend INR 14,000 crore in the establishment of India’s first commercial semiconductor manufacturing plant. This state-of-the-art plant will produce Silicon Carbide (SiC) chips, supporting India’s sustainability and technological development objectives.

In order to ensure the success of this project, the southern state promised to supply land in the Orvakal major industrial cluster in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh as well as the ecology and infrastructure required.

“The new SiC fab facility will begin with a production capacity of 10,000 wafers per month, ramping up to 50,000 wafers per month within two to three years. This strategic investment is aligned with India’s Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision and addresses the growing global demand for energy-efficient technologies, electric vehicles, and renewable energy solutions,” said an official press release.
