Andrea Folgueiras and Juan Azcue join Telefonica's Executive Committee

Telefónica’s Executive Chairman José María Álvarez-Pallete proposed the following changes to the Executive Committee, which the Board of Directors accepted today:

After a fruitful 40-year career with Telefónica, Enrique Blanco, the Global Chief Technology and Information Officer (GCTIO), will leave the Group on March 31, 2025. On that date, Andrea Folgueiras, who was included in the succession plan, will take over as GCTIO and join Telefónica’s Executive Committee.

Andrea Folgueiras is a University of Buenos Aires graduate who works as an electronic engineer. She graduated from ESEADE with an MBA. She has worked in the telecommunications industry for over 30 years, holding senior positions in several nations. She began working for the Telefónica Group in Argentina in 1991, rising to the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in 1997. She became the Chief Technology and Information Officer (CTIO) of Hispam in 2016 after serving as CTO of Telefónica Deutschland in 2007 and Telefónica Brazil in 2013. She serves on the boards of Onnet Fibra in Chile and Colombia and Internet for All in Peru.

Telefónica is grateful to Enrique Blanco for his decades of technological leadership in operations and systems. He has established a telco industry roadmap that has made the Group a technological benchmark, providing its customers with new generation networks in key markets.

After 13 years with the Group, Mark Evans will also start a new career outside of Telefónica in January 2025. Juan Azcue will join the Executive Committee on January 1, 2025, and take Mark’s place as Chief Strategy and Development Officer.

Juan Azcue graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid with a degree in business administration and economics. In 1999, he started working at KPMG’s Madrid office, initially in the audit division and then in the Corporate Finance division.

He joined Telefonica SA’s Mergers & Acquisitions team in 2004, where he helped carry out historic deals like the purchase of O2, the privatization of Cesky Telecom, and the purchase of 50% of VIVO. He assumed control of this division in 2019, and he has since spearheaded the implementation of key deals like the sale of Telxius’ tower division or the UK merger of O2 and Virgin Media.

Telefónica is grateful to Mark Evans for his outstanding work in putting the company in a position to handle future challenges. First, he served as CEO of O2 UK, where he established a model firm for innovation and customer experience while achieving steady development in the business. He then led a new company plan centered on three main goals: growth, profitability, and sustainability (GPS) in his capacity as Global Chief Strategy and Development Officer.

The goal of creating value for all of Telefónica’s stakeholders and the dedication to achieving the business’s operational and financial goals are upheld by this Executive Committee renewal.
