Arab MOI officials praised the Doha-based UN regional office for battling cybercrime

The opening of the UN regional center for countering cybercrime in Doha was celebrated by officials of the Arab interior ministries tasked with managing information technology crime prevention at their first conference.

The two-day event, which ended at the General Secretariat of the Arab Interior Ministers Council headquarters in Tunis, was hosted by the State of Qatar, which also asked the relevant agencies in member nations to get in touch with it to identify training possibilities and needs.

Brigadier Ali Hassan Al Kubaisi, Director of the Ministry of Interior’s Economic and Cybercrimes Combating Department, chaired the discussion, which examined national experiences and challenges related to cybercrimes. It also covered a proposed Arab strategy to combat cybercrimes.

Additionally, it asked the General Secretariat of the Council to work with the center to draft an Arab action plan aimed at reducing cybercrimes in the Arab world.

In order to explore the possibility of working together to combat information technology crimes, the participants also called on the General Secretariat, in collaboration with the center, to take seriously the possibility of hosting a meeting between representatives of social media networks and significant Internet-based businesses and the officials in charge of combating information technology crimes in member states.

They highlighted the importance of holding a workshop for officials in this field and putting in place field training for Arab nations to measure the ability of those in charge to handle information technology crimes.
