Atul Kumar Chaudhary appointed by the Government as TRAI Secretary

Chaudhary is an Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer deputed to the foreign service for two years.

With V Raghunandan’s departure on May 31, the government appointed Atul Kumar Chaudhary as the next Secretary of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

Chaudhary is a graduate of IIT Roorkee and also has a Master’s degree from IIPA Delhi in Public Policy and Administration. Having worked for BSNL and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), he has a wealth of experience in personnel, HR, administration, licensing, and vigilance responsibilities. He is currently the Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), having previously held the position at the Department of Transportation. Chaudhary is an Indian Telecom Service (ITS) officer deputed to the foreign service for two years. He is an officer of the 1989 batch.

Chaudhary will take on major duties in establishing telecom rules and regulations, enhancing service quality, and resolving issues like unwanted calls and new broadcasting policies after Raghunandan’s retirement, which was formally announced at a TRAI event on May 15.
