Brigham Young University President C. Shane Reese, following approval from the BYU Board of Trustees, has appointed Brian Radford as vice president of information technology and chief information officer. His responsibilities will extend across the Church Educational System.
Radford replaces Tracy Flinders, who is retiring after serving as a seasoned executive leader at BYU and in the IT industry.
Radford’s appointment is effective Oct. 14. Radford has worked in various capacities at the Provo Missionary Training Center and in the Missionary Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 28 years, including the last five years as director of technology and product management.
“Brian embodies a strong mission alignment with BYU and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” said President Reese. “He has taken a sincere interest in students who have worked under his direction at the Church and at the MTC. Brian’s contributions during his time in the Missionary Department have been described as vastly consequential. His strategic vision and leadership are credited for many of the advancements made there.”
President Reese added, “Professionally, Brian has led significant efforts in system-wide software implementations at each institution where he has served. Across these organizations, he has established a clear vision of the strategic role of technology.”
In expressing his gratitude to Flinders, President Reese said, “Tracy has provided remarkable leadership to the university, navigating a complex and dynamic technological landscape. Specifically, Tracy’s contributions to digital security and establishing an ethic of service across campus have done so much to enhance the student experience at BYU.”
Within the Missionary Department, Radford defined the strategy for technology use for missionary training across the world. Part of his vision included implementing smartphones for 70,000 missionaries.
Radford has over 25 years of experience in information technology leadership at various organizations. He has a passion for business development and has served in executive leadership technology positions for several companies, including American Business Solutions.
Radford received master’s and doctoral degrees in instructional psychology and technology and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from BYU.
