BYD said on Wednesday that it has been given permission to test level 3 (L3) autonomous driving on busy highways under restricted testing.
Large Chinese manufacturer BYD (002594.SZ) said on Wednesday that it has been granted a conditional testing license for level 3 (L3) autonomous driving on fast-moving highways.
According to a statement, BYD received the first license of this kind in China in July.
Mercedes Benz (MBGn.DE) announced that it would conduct L3 testing on designated highways in Beijing, while BMW Group (BMWG.DE) announced earlier in December that it had obtained a test license for L3 self-driving on high-speed routes in Shanghai.
State-owned Chinese manufacturer SAIC Motor (600104.SS), which owns the EV brand IM Motors, has announced that it is also submitting an application for the product launch of L3 cars to China’s industry ministry.
