The German software behemoth SAP is increasing its investment in India and intends to greatly increase the number of its employees there, according to a report. India is set to overtake even SAP’s headquarters in Germany as the company’s largest employment hub, according to CEO Christian Klein.
“We will over proportionally hire here [India] versus all the other labs,” Klein stated while visiting Bengaluru with the company’s executive and supervisory boards, according to news agency Reuters. The company also stated that India will soon house the largest workforce, surpassing the number of employees at company headquarters.
SAP Labs has 15,000 employees in India
With 15,000 workers, SAP Labs India is currently the company’s second-biggest office overall and its largest engineering center worldwide. As one of SAP’s top 10 revenue sources and its fastest-growing market, Klein emphasized the significance of India to the firm.
He also disclosed that the bulk of upcoming expenditures for customer success programs and research and development (R&D) will go to India; however, Klein did not give any numbers or hiring schedules.
To accommodate an additional 15,000 workers, the business is presently building a second office in Bengaluru.
Klein on India’s role in AI
The company’s primary AI team is situated in India, and an increasing number of development teams are headed by Indians, Klein added, underscoring the country’s significance in SAP’s AI strategy.
Klein reassured staff members that SAP will keep hiring as long as the company continues on its current growth track, allaying worries about possible job losses brought on by the development of generative AI (GenAI).
“As your business is growing 30% each year, you will also need more developers, not proportionally, under proportionally, but we have a growing business,” he stated.
