CMO Gaurav Chand departs from Cognizant

Cognizant still experiences high-level departures. Gaurav Chand, its chief marketing officer, left the company abruptly, according to reports. The leadership lineup on its website does not include Chand’s name. A search mandate has been launched by Cognizant to identify Chand’s replacement. Chand’s departure closely follows that of Sarat Varanasi, who left Cognizant after 17 years as the leader of the company’s North America Insurance business segment, which was in charge of generating $2 billion in revenue.

Chand was in charge of managing Cognizant’s global marketing initiatives, which included corporate marketing strategy, event planning, creative direction, digital marketing, and brand management. He has actually had a major role in leading a number of sports marketing initiatives, such as the one for the Cognizant-sponsored Aston Martin F-1 team. This year, the US Major League Cricket was sponsored by the corporation.

“We thank Gaurav Chand for his leadership since 2019, during which he oversaw all aspects of Cognizant’s global marketing. Senior vice president of global marketing, Thea Hayden, a 25-year marketing veteran and seasoned Cognizant executive, will serve as our interim chief marketing officer while a global search for a permanent CMO is conducted. Her deep expertise and leadership will ensure a seamless transition and adeptly steer our marketing efforts forward,” the company said in a statement.

With other professionals leaving the company in quick succession, Chand’s departure coincides with a mass exodus among the marketing team. When asked about the departures from the marketing team, Cognizant did not respond.

Cognizant announced last year that it had started the $400 million NextGen effort to increase margins through personnel and real estate cost reductions. A total of 3,500 jobs, or 1% of the workforce, will be lost at NextGen in both corporate and non-billable positions.
