Coimbatore plans Marathon to raise cyber awareness against women

On September 1, a marathon was organized in Coimbatore to raise women awareness of cybercrime. The 5 km marathon was organized by the volunteer group We Wonder Woman along with Karpagam University for the fourth year running.

According to Trustee Shanmugapriya and Executive Trustee of the NGO Subitha Justin, cybercrimes are on the rise in society as a result of the rapid advancement of information technology. Cybercrimes are also increasing in Coimbatore, particularly those directed at women.

Women are conscious, yet occasionally they are impacted without even recognizing it. Cybercrimes against women are increasing in frequency due to technology.

Since the age of fifteen, one in ten girls is thought to have been the victim of cyberbullying. For women, it is the most typical type of cybercrime. They use deceptive tactics to win women over so they may exploit their trust.

Cybercriminals typically target women in order to obtain sensitive personal data, such as addresses, financial information, and intimate chats.

If victims do not cooperate with the demands of the criminals, they may be threatened with the exposure of sensitive data. In these situations, the victims receive a lot of support from the police department.

The majority of abused women in society are unwilling to come forward. Consequently, the Coimbatore Nehru Stadium hosted the marathon in order to raise awareness among women about cybercrime. It continued along Racecourse Road, Collector Bungalow, Hosur Road, Avinasi Road, KG Theatre, and Nehru Stadium. A medal, diploma, T-shirt, and breakfast were awarded to each participant in the event.
