Staying ahead of emerging threats requires a proactive approach to fortify the defenses of both traditional cybersecurity measures and the AI systems themselves.
This is an exclusive interview conducted by Santosh Vaswani, Journalist & Editor with Sumit Shee, a Technologist and Emerging Leader in IT Industry, associated with renowned Global IT Company as Senior Solution & Service Specialist in Digital Transformation and Cyber Security Lead.
How did you plan your career path to be a successful Cyber Security and Digital transformation lead in IT industry?
I meticulously crafted my career by first obtaining a strong educational foundation in cybersecurity and acquiring industry-recognized certifications. I then sought hands-on experience in diverse roles within IT security, gradually advancing to leadership positions. Recognizing the growing importance of digital transformation, I expanded my skill set to include expertise in transformative technologies. Networking, mentorship, and continuous learning have been integral. My strategic planning, adaptability, and results-oriented approach have enabled me to successfully navigate the evolving landscape, positioning me as a leader in both cybersecurity and digital transformation within the dynamic IT industry.
How has the role of artificial intelligence evolved in cybersecurity strategies since 2022, and what specific advancements do you see as game-changers in 2024?
“In the past couple of years, we’ve witnessed a significant evolution in the integration of artificial intelligence within cybersecurity. The use of AI has shifted from being primarily reactive to proactive, allowing for more dynamic threat detection and response. In 2024, we’re seeing advancements in AI-driven predictive analytics, which empower us to anticipate and prevent cyber threats before they materialize. This shift towards a more anticipatory and adaptive approach is a game-changer in the field.”
With the increasing reliance on AI in cybersecurity, what challenges do you foresee in terms of ensuring the ethical use and responsible deployment of AI technologies to safeguard against potential risks or biases?
“The ethical use of AI in cybersecurity is a critical concern. As we lean more on machine learning algorithms and automated decision-making, ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability becomes paramount. There’s a need for a comprehensive framework to address potential biases in AI models and to establish guidelines for responsible AI deployment. Striking the right balance between security and ethical considerations is an ongoing challenge that demands constant attention.”
As cyber threats become more sophisticated, how do you envision the collaboration between human cybersecurity professionals and AI technologies evolving to create a more effective defense strategy?
“The collaboration between humans and AI is pivotal in the cybersecurity landscape. While AI excels at processing vast amounts of data and identifying patterns, human intuition, creativity, and contextual understanding remain irreplaceable. In 2024, we’re witnessing a shift towards a symbiotic relationship where AI augments human capabilities. Cybersecurity professionals are leveraging AI as a force multiplier, allowing us to scale our defenses, automate routine tasks, and focus on higher-order decision-making in the face of complex threats.”
How are you addressing the potential vulnerabilities and security risks associated with the use of AI in cybersecurity, especially considering the emerging threats targeting AI systems directly?
“The security of AI systems is a top priority. We recognize that as AI becomes more integral to cybersecurity, it also becomes a target for malicious actors. Implementing robust security measures for AI models, continuous monitoring for adversarial attacks, and investing in research and development for secure AI technologies are essential components of our strategy. Staying ahead of emerging threats requires a proactive approach to fortify the defenses of both traditional cybersecurity measures and the AI systems themselves.”
In light of the evolving cyber threat landscape, how are you ensuring that your cybersecurity team stays updated with the latest advancements in AI and other technologies, and how crucial is ongoing education and training in maintaining a resilient cybersecurity posture?
“Ongoing education and training are paramount in the field of cybersecurity. As the threat landscape evolves, staying ahead requires continuous learning.
