College Professor Fooled by Cybercriminals and paid Rs. 85 lakhs in an Online Stock Scam

The network of online scammers in Aligarh keeps growing as they employ fresh strategies to trick individuals. Recently, cybercriminals tricked a college professor out of Rs 85 lakh by tricking him into falling for a fake investment program. As the professor saw he had been scammed, he lost communication with the scammers and was unable to reclaim the large returns he had been promised through stock market investments.

Around August 7, the professor—who works at a prestigious metropolitan college and resides in the Civil Lines area—was initially contacted via WhatsApp. He was given the chance to invest in the stock market by the cybercriminals, who promised him large returns. The professor was first tricked into depositing Rs 40,000 into a bank account that the con artists had supplied. They showed him a profit of Rs 10,000 a few days later, but he didn’t take the money out at that time. This gave the professor encouragement, and he eventually put up Rs 85 lakh.

The fraudsters stopped communicating and cut off all contact when the professor eventually asked for the withdrawal of his refunds. When the professor realized he had been duped, he complained to the local police department.

The Cyber Police Station is currently conducting investigations and getting ready to file a formal case.
