According to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, since 2022, at least 263 cybercrimes have been reported in the state. His administration has made combating cybercrime a top priority.
Speaking at a cybercrime seminar at the Serchhip Press Club, the Chief Minister emphasized the significance of public knowledge in all internet-based activities while highlighting the sharp rise in cybercrime cases nationwide.
“As prevention is better than cure, we must prioritize preventive measures in all our transactions and communications,” the Chief Minister said.
According to Lalduhoma, on May 20, 2022, the Mizoram government established a cybercrime police station.
“In 2022, around 158 cybercrime cases were registered, followed by 72 cases in 2023, and 33 cases so far this year,” the Chief Minister said.
The Chief Minister asked everyone to report any questionable calls, messages, or online activity to the local police station as soon as possible.
The Chief Minister, who was also elected to the state assembly from the Serchhip seat, launched the cybercrime seminar hosted by the Mizoram Journalists Association (MJA) at the Serchhip Press Club.
The lecture is the first of several such gatherings that the MJA will host at its eight district headquarters.
The MJA President, C. Lalrambuatsaiha, served as the seminar’s chair.
The government’s response to cybercrime offenses in Mizoram was elucidated by Zonunsanga, Additional Superintendent of Police, CID Crime.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister spoke with all of the Serchhip office heads in a separate interactive session about a range of district issues.
