US oilfield services company Halliburton said on Tuesday that costs associated with responding to a cyberattack in August have been paid and are probably going to be incurred going forward.
The incident, according to the Houston-based corporation, involved an unauthorized third party accessing and removing data from Halliburton’s systems. It also resulted in disruptions and restricted access to several of its business applications.
According to Halliburton, the incident did not and is not likely to have a meaningful influence on its outcomes.
In demands for more details regarding the types of data deleted and associated costs, the company chose not to comment.
However, as soon as it learned of the problem, the company reportedly activated its cybersecurity response plan and began an internal investigation with the assistance of outside experts to evaluate and address the illegal behaviour.
