Mumbai, 01st Oct 2024: October is globally celebrated as the Cyber Security Awareness Month (CSAM). The theme for 2024 is “Secure Our World.” To champion the cause, DSCI, with the help of its supporting partners, will promote cybersecurity awareness and digital safety, encouraging citizens, businesses, and stakeholders to join hands and spread the word to stay safe online.

To mark the occasion, the Cyber Security Awareness Month drive was formally launched today by Dr. Sanjay Behl, Director General, CERT-In; Ms. Kamala Kantharaj, Chief Regulatory Officer, BSE Ltd. (formerly Bombay Stock Exchange); and Mr. Vinayak Godse, CEO, DSCI.

To symbolize the joint efforts of the government and industry, the time-honoured ‘Ring the Bell’ tradition at the Bombay Stock Exchange was utilized as a symbol of commitment to raise awareness and promote cyber safety. The awareness drive is supported by industry partners namely, Bangalore Internation Airtel Limited, CRED, IIFL Finance, Punjab National Bank, HDFC Bank, Protectt.ai, and ZS Associates.

The CSAM drive will explore cyber areas ranging from social media safety, digital payments safety, app & account safety, privacy protection, email security, and cybercrime redressal mechanisms to navigate through the emerging challenges in the cyber world. This year, the campaign brings a new perspective of donning the role of a cyberhero and inculcates and propagates safer online habits. All awareness material and artifacts will be available at the DSCI website: https://www.dsci.in/content/cyber-security-awareness-month-2024

Launching the safety drive, Dr. Sanjay Bahl, Director General, CERT-In, said, “India’s digital landscape has witnessed tremendous growth, with over 80 crore digital Nagriks actively utilizing the Internet and cyberspace, making it one of the largest connected nations in the world. As the cyberspace continues to expand at a rapid pace, it is increasingly being recognized that “technological literacy” is a prerequisite to compete and thrive in the wired economy. Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and we all must take steps towards cyber hygiene to protect ourselves and each other, be it at home, at work, or in our communities. By promoting a culture of cybersecurity awareness, we can help create a secure Bharat with digitally empowered nagriks who can engage with society, government, and the economy securely. It is very heartening to see that various industry partners have come together to contribute to this cause and wish the campaign all the success.”

Marking the occasion, Ms. Kamala Kantharaj, Chief Regulatory Officer, BSE Ltd., said, “In the last couple of decades, the way we form connections, the way organizations function, and the way we carry our transactions have all evolved and taken a digital path. The convenience that technology and innovation have enabled to people at large has brought in newer dimensions of challenges. Today, citizens are lured by false promises, and fraudulent activities have mushroomed all over the internet and social media. To stay safe, it is of utmost importance to ensure that people develop competence and skills to navigate the digital world safely. Cyber skills are to be developed at a country level, and it is the right time for ringing the bell for security.”

At the CSAM opening ceremony, Vinayak Godse, CEO, DSCI, said, “Digital solutions have enabled citizens to get connected and brought ease of doing business, transactions, and communication with increased volume and velocity. However, this has also led adversaries to perpetuate cybercrimes and frauds, which puts citizens and businesses at risk. With the objective to imbibe a culture of safer cyber practices, the Cyber Security Awareness Month drive will explore cyber areas to navigate through the online world safely. The campaign will also aim to bring everyone together from different small cities and businesses in the journey and impart cyber education. I am thanking the government and the industry partners for coming forward and supporting us in this cause-driven awareness initiative.”
